FOIL Summer Tops – Let the Shirt Bring the Colour

A printed shirt can change the pants you wear every week. FOIL’s summer tops bring cotton, linen, ramie and softer fabrics into outfits built around familiar denim, white trousers and relaxed cropped pants.

Compare the sleeve coverage and finished length alongside the fabric. A shirt worn open over a tank, a loose linen top and a flowing blouse give you different options without needing complicated styling.

If you prefer wearing tops untucked, check the back hem and room through the hips. Browse the selection below, or ask us to help you compare shapes and coverage.

FOIL Tops & Shirts – A Different Outfit Starts at the Top

The pants may already be in your wardrobe. What changes the outfit is the shirt you put with them: a print above plain white, a cotton collar with denim, or a softer blouse when you are going out.

FOIL tops and shirts give you those choices without requiring a completely different way of dressing. Our selection includes cotton shirts, linen tops, ramie blouses, softer printed fabrics and knitwear. Choose according to what you want the top to do: provide colour, give coverage, introduce texture or bring a familiar pair of pants back into use.

A shirt you can wear more than one way

A button-through shirt is useful beyond the fully buttoned outfit. Wear it loose over pants, tuck the front if you prefer more definition, or leave it open over a tank. The same shirt can look quite different with each change.

The cotton All Class Shirt is one example in FOIL’s range. Its collar and button front provide a familiar shape, while seasonal prints let you change the colour above your usual denim, navy or white pants.

Before choosing, check the shoulder and bust fit with the shirt closed. Then try it open. If you want to wear it both ways, the fit needs to work for both, including when you sit or reach forward.

Linen tops with room through the body

A linen top can give plain trousers all the interest they need. With a printed style such as the Enchanting Top, begin with a familiar neutral beneath it. The print can carry the outfit while the pants and shoes stay simple.

Look at the sleeve width and how the back falls, as well as the front view. A pleat, split or wider sleeve can change the amount of movement and coverage you get. The relaxed shape should feel intentional at the shoulders rather than simply too large everywhere.

Linen comes in different weights and finishes. Check the actual top in good light if coverage is important to you. Natural texture and creasing are part of its appearance, so choose a finish you will enjoy wearing through the day.

      Ramie and softer printed blouses

Ramie brings another natural-fibre option to summer dressing. The Frill Of It Blouse uses it with a button front and ruffle detail, while the Detailed Account Top shows a more sheer finish with detail through the sleeves.

Sheerness is a separate decision from fit. A top can be comfortably loose and still need a camisole for the coverage you prefer. Think about the complete outfit, including any layer underneath, when judging how light it will feel.

If you prefer a softer fall to a crisp shirt, compare the printed blouses too. The Wild About Top and Bubble Trouble Blouse use Tencel and nylon blends, with different sleeve treatments and degrees of transparency. They give you other ways to wear colour with plain pants.

Sleeves that give you the coverage you want

A sleeve description alone cannot tell you where it will finish. Short sleeves can be narrow or generous, and a three-quarter sleeve may have a fitted cuff or a looser opening.

Consider where you want coverage, then check the sleeve while moving. A comfortable fit through the upper arm matters as much as the hem position. If you are choosing a top to wear under a jacket, compare the two together so the sleeve has enough room.

      Wearing a top untucked

You do not need to tuck a top to make an outfit work. Look at its finished hem, where it falls over your hips and how it sits above the shape of your pants.

With a wide leg, compare a shorter top, a longer loose shirt and a small front tuck. With a narrower pant, you may enjoy more length above it. These are choices to try on your body, not rules that decide what you can wear.

Back pleats, side splits and curved hems can be particularly useful when you prefer wearing shirts loose. Check the back view and sit down before deciding on the length.

Colour above the pants you already own

White and cream pants give a strong print a lighter background. Navy and denim offer quieter partners; chocolate can bring a different warmth beneath pink, coral or blue.

With a print, pick up one detail if you want a colour connection. Every shade does not need repeating in the shoes and bag. Before buying, picture two pairs of pants or a skirt you would wear with the top. That makes it easier to choose a piece you will use.

      Choosing your size and fabric

Selected FOIL tops use numerical sizes 8–18, while knitwear and other styles use alpha sizing, including XS–XXL on selected garments. The available size range varies. Compare the individual measurements and fit notes, especially when moving between a structured shirt and a relaxed knit.

Weekends offers help from our Mount Lawley boutique in Perth, with online delivery to Australia and New Zealand. Tell us whether you want arm coverage, an untucked length or a top to wear with particular pants, and we can help you compare.

FOIL Tops & Shirts Frequently Asked Questions

The selection includes cotton, linen, ramie, Tencel blends and knit fabrics. The composition varies by garment. Check the particular top for fibre content, stretch, lining and care rather than assuming every shirt or blouse uses the same fabric.
Yes. Different styles offer short, elbow-length, three-quarter or long sleeves. Check the actual sleeve length and width for the top you are considering, including any cuff, so you have comfortable room to move.
Look for a finished hem and a length you enjoy over your pants, with enough room through the hips to fall freely. Relaxed shirts and tops with side splits, curved hems or back pleats are worth comparing. Check the back view and the fit while seated.
Some do, depending on the fabric and the coverage you prefer. The Detailed Account Top and Bubble Trouble Blouse have sheer or semi-transparent finishes. Read the individual listing and assess the top in good light with your intended layer underneath.
Use the measurements and fit notes for the particular style. Selected tops use sizes 8–18, while some knitwear and other styles use alpha sizes, including XS–XXL on selected garments. A relaxed blouse and a fitted shirt may need different comparisons; ask us if you are unsure.
