FOIL for Summer – A Little Colour, an Easy Shape
FOIL Clothing – Let One Piece Change the Outfit
A printed shirt above the navy pants you wear every week. A linen dress with enough shape to feel dressed, and enough room to enjoy lunch. A coloured cardigan over a plain tee and jeans.
That is a useful way to approach FOIL: look for the piece that gives you another reason to wear the clothes already in your wardrobe. You might want a different colour, a sleeve that provides more coverage or a pant that feels easier through the waist. Start with that, then compare the fabrics and shapes.
FOIL is designed in Christchurch, New Zealand. The label works with local and international artists on printed fabrics, alongside collections using linen, cotton, ramie, merino and other fibres. At Weekends, you can explore that range online or compare pieces with our team in Mount Lawley, Perth.
FOIL Tops and Shirts – Give Your Plain Pants Something New
If you have plenty of pants but keep making the same outfits, begin with the top. A print can bring colour above white, cream or denim; a cotton shirt can give a softer pant more definition around the neckline.
A button-through shirt also gives you choices. Wear it closed and loose, try a small front tuck, or leave it open over a tank. The cotton All Class Shirt is one example: a familiar collared shape whose prints change what happens above your usual trousers.
FOIL Blouses
A blouse can change the pants you wear every week into an outfit for lunch or dinner. Compare soft printed fabrics with ramie for natural texture, and choose the neckline and sleeve coverage you enjoy. Ruffles, pintucks or a flutter sleeve can provide the detail while the rest of the outfit stays simple.
If you prefer wearing blouses untucked, check how the hem falls over your hips and look at the back view too. Some lighter fabrics are deliberately sheer, so include your intended camisole when judging the coverage and feel.

FOIL Dresses – Choose the Shape You Want to Spend the Day In
A summer dress should be comfortable beyond the moment you stand in front of the mirror. Think about sitting over lunch, walking around on holiday or reaching forward in the car. The right amount of room makes a difference.
If you prefer an unfitted waist, compare a shift or A-line silhouette. The linen Stitch Up Dress shows how a relaxed shape can still have interest through its print, neckline and hem. If you enjoy definition, look at a shirt dress or a style with an adjustable tie or shaped waist.
Sleeve coverage deserves its own decision. Check where the sleeve finishes and how much room it gives your upper arm. For length, add your intended shoes and sit down before deciding; the same dress will finish differently on different women.

FOIL Pants – A Different Finish from Your Everyday Denim
A cotton-rich stretch pant can be useful when you want a clearer line beneath a shirt without moving into formal tailoring. Compare the waistband, the room through the thigh and the shape below the knee.
The Signature 7/8 Pant gives you a tapered, cropped direction with a pull-on waist. A full-length wide leg changes the proportion and brings more movement through the lower half. Both can work with a loose shirt; try the whole outfit before deciding which shape you prefer.
Fabric stretch and waist elasticity are separate details. A flexible waistband does not necessarily mean the fabric through the leg stretches. Sit down in the pants, check the hips and thighs, then look at the hem with your shoes.
Explore FOIL pants for stretch styles, cropped shapes, wider legs and softer relaxed options.
What You Want from the Fabric
Fibre is a starting point. Weight, weave, stretch, lining and the cut of the garment affect how it feels on the body. FOIL uses different fabrics for different jobs, so compare the finished piece as well as the label.
Linen and cotton for warmer days
Linen can bring texture to a simple dress or top, while a cotton shirt gives you another kind of finish. Neither fibre guarantees the same weight or coverage across every garment. Look at the weave and the fit, and consider whether the piece needs another layer underneath.
Linen knits provide another option. They fall differently from a woven shirt and can take the place of a tee when you want a little more texture. Check the openness of the knit in good light.
Ramie and lighter blouses
FOIL’s ramie tops offer natural texture in lighter fabrics, with some deliberately sheer designs. If you want more coverage, include your intended camisole when assessing the outfit. A light outer layer can still feel quite different once you add something beneath it.
Stretch and softer drape
Cotton-rich stretch fabrics provide flexibility in selected pants and dresses. Softer viscose or Tencel blends give you other ways to wear a flowing shape. Compare how the fabric falls rather than expecting every relaxed garment to behave alike.
Read colour and composition separately, too. Linen can be a colour name; it does not confirm a linen fabric. The composition and care notes on each product page are the place to check.
FOIL Knitwear – More Than a Winter Jumper
A knitted linen top, a fine merino layer and a textured cardigan belong to different days. Choose the weight for your climate and the layers you intend to wear with it.
For warmer weather, FOIL’s knitted linen tops give you a change from a woven shirt. In cooler weather, a finer merino top such as Love Ewe can sit beneath a jacket, while a cardigan lets you add or remove warmth through the day.
If most of your winter wardrobe is black, navy or denim, let a coloured knit or stripe provide the change. You do not need to add a printed shirt as well. Texture can be enough to make a plain outfit feel different.

Colour You Can Wear with What You Own
Before choosing a strong print, picture the plain pieces it will sit beside. White pants can make blue, coral or green the focus. Navy and denim offer quieter partners, while chocolate gives pink and pale blue another setting.
With a print, one connection can be enough. Pick up a small colour detail if you want to, then keep the shoes and bag familiar. There is no need to match every shade in the fabric.
If you prefer quieter colours, look for interest in the garment itself: a textured knit, sleeve detail, a shaped hem or the way the fabric falls. You can enjoy FOIL without choosing the brightest piece in the collection.
How Does FOIL Clothing Fit?
FOIL does not have one fit across the whole label. A relaxed linen top, a shaped shirt dress and a tapered stretch pant need different comparisons. Check the shoulders and bust in a top, the waist and hips in pants, and the fit while seated as well as standing.
Most numerically sized FOIL styles in our current collection run from 8 to 18, with size 20 listed on selected designs. Selected tops and knitwear use XS–XXL sizing. Sizes 22 and 24 are listed only for the Signature 7/8 Pant and Finish Line Pant. These size options do not confirm current stock. Check the availability of your size on the individual product page, or call us in store on 08 6365 5645 to see if we can get your size for you.
Tell us which shapes you enjoy and what you want to wear with the garment. We can help you compare sleeve coverage, top length, waistband comfort and the fall of different fabrics.
