    Supporting Women & Girls in WA

    Supporting Women & Girls in WA

    Hon. Alanna Clohesy MLC, President of the Legislative Council,
    Hon. Simone McGurk MLA, Minister for Women's Interests, and
    Hazel Butorac OAM, President SI On The Terrace

    Something you probably don't think about when you're shopping is what happens to the clothes that have small faults or is stock that has been sitting at the shop for longer than it should.

    While we could sell these garments at heavily discounted prices, we would rather send them to those who need them.  To do this we send our casual clothing to Soroptimist International.  SI distribute the clothes to their network of refuges where they directly help women and girls get back on their feet after experiencing family and domestic violence.

    We also send anything that is suitable for work to Dressed For Success in Subiaco.  Dressed for Success empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

    If you're looking for somewhere to send your wardrobe the next time you're doing a clear-out, please do remember both Soroptimist International and Dressed For Success.

    Hazel Butorac OAM is one of our lovely Mt Lawley ladies.  Hazel is an inductee into the WA Women's Hall of Fame and President of SI On The Terrace, Perth. On behalf of SI On The Terrace, Hazel has written us the loveliest letter to thank us for our continued support of SI.

    Here's the message we received from Hazel;

    Dear Alex,

    I just wanted to express our collective appreciation for your kind "Acts of Kindness and Generosity" towards our aim of supporting women and girls who have escaped domestic violence and temporarily living at a Refuge.

    Our Club, Soroptimist International On The Terrace, has been operating in Perth since July 1993 and joins like-minded Women from most countries in the World who, this year on 3rd October, will celebrate 100 years of endeavour to assist women and girls everywhere in the world who are escaping domestic and family violence from what should be the sanctuary of their own homes.

    It was started in Oakland, California in the US in 1921 and in the UK in 1928. The first one in Sydney, Australia in 1952 and Perth was formed in 1976. This year we are are celebrating 100 years of Soroptimism, "100 Acts of Kindness" and "Plant 100 Trees for the Environment".

    Through International partnerships and a global network of Members, Soroptimists inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls by: Advocating for Equity and Equality; Creating safe and healthy environments; Increasing access to Education; Developing Leadership and practical skills for a sustainable future.

    We are very proud and delighted that Women like yourself and Business like yours in our community assist us in so many practical ways to assist Women and Girls who find themselves victims of domestic and family violence.

    Sincerely .... Hazel Butorac OAM, JP, Inductee into the WA Women's Hall of Fame and President of SI On The Terrace
