Mela Purdie Pace Pant for Summer – A Flowing Leg Beneath Your Favourite Tops
Mela Purdie Pace Pant – Flowing Pants for Lunch, Travel and Occasions
There are days when you want the movement of a dress but would rather wear pants. The Mela Purdie Pace Pant gives you a fluid leg to build an outfit around, with an elasticated waist that keeps dressing straightforward. A simple top can take it into the day; a beautiful blouse gives you somewhere else to wear it.
The regular Pace has a wide leg that falls straight from the hip and finishes at a slightly cropped length. The interest comes from the way the fabric moves, rather than a close fit through the lower leg. Choose the fabric and colour with your own tops in mind, then check the length with the shoes you plan to wear.
A wide leg with a straight, fluid fall
The Pace gives you room through the leg without tapering towards the ankle. In a flowing fabric, that width moves as you walk and creates a different line from a slim pant. It is worth trying if you want less closeness around the knees and calves.
Look at the hip fit as well as the width below it. The pant needs room to fall freely, with pockets sitting comfortably and enough space through the thigh when you sit. A wider hem does not automatically mean that every size will have the fit you want through the upper part of the pant.
The standard rise and elasticated pull-on waistband make the Pace easy to put on. When trying it, check the waist while seated as well as standing. Comfort over lunch or during a journey matters as much as the line you see in the mirror.
Maché: movement through a technical weave
The core Pace Pant uses Mela Purdie’s Japanese Maché, a woven fabric in 100% technical polyester. It has a smooth surface, subtle lustre and a fluid fall. That combination gives a plain-coloured pant enough presence to wear with a dressier top.
Maché itself does not stretch. The waistband is elasticated, while ease through the body and leg comes from the cut. Choose the size that lets the fabric move comfortably across the hips rather than expecting it to stretch into place.
Read more in our Mela Purdie Maché collection if you are comparing fabrics. A flowing technical weave creates a different outfit from the crisper cotton-rich finish of Microprene, even when both garments are described as relaxed.
Mirror Satin and seasonal fabric options
The Pace also appears in seasonal fabrics. Our current Mirror Satin versions offer another surface to consider, with a light, fluid fall and a satin finish. Copper and Sage take the silhouette in different colour directions from the familiar dark and pale neutrals.
Compare the complete garment rather than choosing from the shared style name alone. A change in fabric can alter the feel, lustre and way a colour appears. Use the composition, care information and measurements on the individual listing for the version you are considering.
If you enjoy a matching outfit, look at how the top and pant sit together in the same fabric. If you prefer separates, put the pant beside a blouse you already own. A softer shirt, a matte knit or a cotton top will each change the balance of texture.
Regular Pace or Maxi Pace: choose the length
The regular Pace Pant is slightly cropped. Depending on your height and proportions, that can leave the ankle and shoe visible, giving you a useful length to compare with sandals, flats and a low heel.
The Maxi Pace Pant is a separate, full-length option with a wide leg. Choose it when you prefer a longer line, then assess the hem with your intended footwear. The word Maxi describes the style; it does not tell you exactly where it will finish on your body.
Check the side-seam measurement on the particular product page. The two lengths should be compared separately, even when both are made in Maché. If an alteration is needed, make that decision with the shoe height already chosen.
What to wear above a flowing leg
A wider pant gives you several possibilities for the top. A shorter hem can show more of the waist and leg; an untucked shirt gives you another amount of coverage. A small front tuck is an option when you want to change the proportion without tucking in the whole shirt.
The Soft Stand Shirt brings a defined neckline and curved hem to the outfit. Wear it loose first, then compare how it sits with the Pace’s width. The Travel T offers a simple short-sleeved shape, while the Audrey Tank gives you a sleeveless option.
You can also pair a fluid pant with a soft Matte Jersey top. Look at where the top finishes, how freely it moves over the waistband and whether you enjoy the amount of volume in the finished outfit. There is no need to make every top fitted simply because the pant is wide.
When you would rather wear pants to an occasion
For lunch, dinner or a celebration, choose the whole outfit together. A dressier blouse can change the role of the Pace while leaving the pant available for simpler outfits later. Try the shoes, bag and jewellery you would actually wear, so the purchase has a clear place in your plans.
A tonal combination lets the fabric and movement become the interest. A contrasting blouse gives you another direction, particularly when you already own plain pants and want the colour near your face. The top’s neckline, sleeves and hem all contribute to how the separates work together.
For a wedding, follow the couple’s dress code and colour requests. If white is welcome, a white Pace and a suitable top may be an option; otherwise, build the same sort of outfit in another colour.
Colour that works beyond one outfit
Black gives a coloured or printed blouse a dark base, and can continue the line beneath a black top. Navy works with white, cream and softer prints. White gives azure blue, raspberry, coral and fresh green room to stand out.
Warmer neutrals and seasonal colours give you other ways to use the same silhouette. Try a warm brown shade with cream or white, then compare it with a print containing a brown detail. For a coloured pant, a plain top may be all the outfit needs.
Before choosing, picture two tops you already own that you could wear with the pant. One for an ordinary day and another for going out will help you judge how much use you will get from it. Check the product selection for current colours and sizes rather than assuming every seasonal shade will return.
Travelling with a pant you can wear again
The Maché Pace is useful when you want a pant to cover more than one part of a trip. Wear it with a simple top for lunch or sightseeing plans that suit the outfit, then change the blouse and shoes for dinner.
Its lightweight weave and crease resistance make it a practical fabric to pack, although packing can still leave marks. Follow the garment’s own care label for washing, drying and whether ironing is permitted. Instructions for Maché should not automatically be applied to Mirror Satin or another seasonal fabric.
Help with fit, length and your size
Use the actual garment chart for the style, checking the waist, hip room, rise and side-seam length. A manufacturer’s chart can show a wider range than is currently offered in a particular colour. The size selector on the product page gives you the available options.
If your size is missing, call Weekends on 08 6365 5645 so we can see whether we can obtain it for you. We can also help compare the Pace with the tapered Soft Capri or the cotton-rich Nomad Pant.
